What's your business, and who are your customers?
We help therapists grow, launch, and revamp solo and group practices so they can heal the world. Our customers are passionate healers and helpers who really want to help people- but they've realized they need help creating a sustainable business. They've worked so hard at being excellent at their craft- and we teach them how to get paid well to do it.
Tell us about yourself
I was trained as a therapist and loved what I did, but there was so much that grad school didn't cover. When I started my practice during the Great Recession, I was largely on my own. The coaching I received didn't leave room for where I lived or the people I worked with.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The biggest accomplishment for me is how many therapists I've helped really deeply get to know themselves. They've healed from burnout, left unhealthy relationships, healed their own trauma, paid off debt, and purchased homes. They are finally living the kind of lives they help their clients live!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think finding the balance between working on the business versus in the business. As a baby business owner, I really focused on the work I could do and did everything myself. Transitioning to creating a team and creating something that goes beyond myself and would still have an impact when/if I die, is a huge shift in the work.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I really love the idea of starting with the end in mind. Read or skim the book build to sell. That does NOT mean you have to be focused on selling. But, creating something that you could step away from, go on vacation, be sick, etc., and your business still runs without you is really powerful. I'd also say lean into the discomfort around numbers. Numbers are your friend. Finally, don't focus on comparing yourself to others. Focus on who you are and what you need. You'll never be the cheapest out there- so focus on being the best.
