Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sutton McCraney, Owner of Zentai Consulting, located in Memphis, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’m “The” Business Confidence Coach. I help female coaches build their confidence so they can earn their first $5k without fear, stress, and overwhelm. My clients come to me because their coaching business has never really taken off.

They are tired of hiding behind other people’s expectations and being afraid of showing up as themselves. I work with them to peel back the layers to coach with confidence but also gain clarity on who and how they serve and commit to making their business a priority for sustainability by implementing simple strategies.

Tell us about yourself

I’m a wife, homeschool mom, and veteran of the United States Air Force.
My path to coaching was meandering. I didn’t have coaching on my radar.
When I decided to leave the military in 2019, I had a dream of opening a fitness boutique in Morocco. Well, I did move to Morocco. But the fitness boutique never happened, and I was devastated. I knew I had to pivot.

So I hung out for a bit and started a podcast. Then later toyed with the idea of consulting. I just kind of fell into coaching as I knew I could use my experience, education, and skills to help other female coaches on their entrepreneurial journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is helping other female coaches accomplish things they were always capable of doing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

All of the mind drama that comes along with starting a business. When you’ve been in a 9-5 mentality for years, it was easy to hide. Entrepreneurship reveals ALL the insecurities and doubts, and you have to face and work through them in order to be successful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don’t confuse busy work as progress.
  2. You don’t need the fancy stuff to actually get started.
  3. Work on your mindset first. Knowing and understanding money is a consequence of a successful business. Make decisions from who and where you want to be, not the present.
