Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zef Neemuchwala, Founder of Be A Maker Club, located in Upland, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Be A Maker Club reduces the time it takes for new creators to learn computer-aided design software. This software is used to create three-dimensional models for Engineering, Architecture, Product design, gaming, and now the metaverse. Our customers are enthusiastic creators, DIYers, tinkerers, and inventors who want to bring their ideas to reality for the physical world.

Tell us about yourself

I started Be A Maker Club when I realized that enthusiastic new creators like my eight-year-old daughter were falling off a “motivation cliff” in their creative journey because of complicated software. Helping new creators, specifically girls, learn to make so that they may consider STEM careers is what motivates me each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our team truly cares about helping others make. Getting such a team together is my biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a business owner is hard. Every day there is a new thing that is hard, so it is difficult for me to pick one specific thing that is the hardest.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Running a business is not for everyone, so be really sure you want to do this.
  2. It really helps to be doing something you enjoy doing because making money is a by-product of what you are doing.
  3. Don’t forget the people, a great network around you will help your business, and you will realize opportunities that you did not think were possible.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Making is the most natural thing for humans to do; we used tools before language, and learning to make has many implications – it makes an individual self-sufficient, it increases confidence, it helps express creativity, and it reduces the impact on the environment.
