Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with RoseMarie Lewis, Owner of Yubehandmade, located in Detroit, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Crochet Fashion, and I have a yarn brand. My customers are women mostly going on vacation looking for resort wear ages range 25-45. For my yarn brand, YUBE Yarn, my customers are my people! Other fiber artists are looking for something that YUBE Yarn has with my multi-colored yarn.

Tell us about yourself

Hey!! I'm RoseMarie Lewis, Owner of Yubehandmade and Yube Yarn Collection. I'm a Fiber Artist, Crochet Fashion Designer, wife, and mother of six. What first got me started on my business was just wanting to make a scarf for my son to match his snowsuit for Michigan. What motivates me each day to do what I do is my family. Just know that my kids get to see me do Work in my passion. I've always wanted something to do with the fashion industry, and I'm living my dream, and they get to do it with me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

MIAMI SWIM WEEK was so big for me. I've always wanted to do that. I'm looking forward to maybe New York fashion week as well as Paris Fashion Week. Just being able to start a business and still be in business after 20 years is a big accomplishment. I'm a mother of six very busy kids. And I've always wanted my own yarn brand, I was able to accomplish that, and it feels great.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's social media, marketing, and when it's time to travel for business. I HATE leaving my family behind. Soon I'll be able to bring everyone with me so they can see that nothing is impossible.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never limit yourself.
  2. You have to believe in yourself and your craft.
  3. Learn everything you can about social media; lol, I'm learning something new every day.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Pulling from my nearly 20 years of design experience, my pieces are all freehand! I don't use patterns; everything is designed and executed by me. My goal is for women to feel sexy and confident in their own skin. Yubehandmade also features custom designs for all shapes.
