Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jonathan Magnin, Founder of You're Closer, located in Montpellier, LR, France.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help people discover their life mission and create an online business with it. I feel that what we do as a career should be the result of who we are internally and not something we find outside of us, like following the trends or what our friends do. This is powerful, as once we focus on this internal calling, purpose and professional decisions become easy and aligned with who we really are. And because I'm also quite organized, I also offer accountability as a weekly service, checking up with my clients every week using a powerful reward & penalty system.

Tell us about yourself

I spent 15 years trying about 35 different jobs in different countries and languages without being fulfilled or even impressed... It took me all this time to figure out what to do because I wanted it all. I wanted to tick all the boxes of my ideal job. I now work remotely on my own projects since 2013. As an inspirational speaker and facilitator, I have spoken on virtual and in-person stages, podcasts, and interviews. See, I believe we can all serve others with what we do best. We just need to find what it is. So I created a transformative system to help you Unleash Your Inner Leader and Start the Right Online Business.

More specifically, I help people discover their life mission and turn it into a profitable location independent business they love. You're unique, and I know you can do great things in the right environment. Now is not the time for your potential to go to waste because of an inadequate career choice!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm so happy to have optimized my lifestyle to my own rhythms, with barely setting up alarms in the morning, being able to go to the beach anytime in the week, and working with an audience I really care about and love.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

In my case, being a business owner is completely linked to working remotely, as it was one of the main criteria I wanted in my professional life. I needed that freedom of place and time. It's not for everyone, as some people perform better when someone tells them what to do - and it's ok. As I'm quite disciplined and organized, it wasn't that hard to get going and keep going with this lifestyle of complete freedom. I have a solid routine that keeps me fit and in the best mindset while I plan my days and regularly checks on my goals to make sure what I do is aligned with who I want to become. It took a while to have this routine in place, and I would say it's key to long-term success working remotely.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Check-in with yourself to make sure your project is aligned with you, with what you want to stand for, with the skills you'd love to learn, and that you love the audience you're going to help. Knowing about marketing or design is great, but ultimately if your business is not a great fit for you as a person, it will be complicated to stand for it over time when work gets difficult.
  2. If you want to work remotely, it's easier than you think, but you need to be disciplined and have some routines that work for you. For example, stop working at some point in your day (yes, overwork is a thing!), attend networking or social events to not stay alone (mental health is real).
  3. Make sure you know what you're good at, and if you plan to work with other people, learn to delegate and not micro-manage! If you hire someone to help you do some work, you need to trust them enough so that you don't need to look at everything they do. This will save you a lot of brain power and stress... as I believe business is not meant to be stressful!
