Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenny Nguyen, Co-Founder & CEO of Y'OUR Skin, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Y'OUR specializes in personalized skincare using AI and human expertise. Our goal is for every person to have the confidence that comes with having great skin. We put great work into curating the safest and most effective ingredients that just work with their biology and lifestyle and target all their concerns.

Tell us about yourself

I've had 15 years in the beauty industry, studying and curating products and talking directly to customers about their concerns. As a consumer struggling with acne, I deeply understand their concerns and realize that there are so many options out there and no way to determine whether a product works other than trial and error, which can be extremely expensive, time-consuming, and can cause irreversible damage. It was when I cured my own acne that I understood how powerful the right routine could be to transform your skin and your confidence. That's why I wanted to help people find the perfect product that just works for them without having to go through any fuss. Together with my partner Hannah, combining our shared goals and data science expertise, Y'OUR was born.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment would always be creating an impact – seeing our products change lives. I always love to receive positive customer feedback and see how our products make people more beautiful, confident, and happier, thus, becoming the best versions of themselves.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It's knowing that there will always be problems. When sales aren't going well, you have a financial problem. When you have too much demand, you have an inventory problem. The hardest thing is accepting that problems will always arise that we have to deal with, and it is part of the journey. But by accepting it, the problems become transparent and easier to solve, right down to the root.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Finding balance and taking time for yourself. It's a cliche to say you have to take care of both your physical and mental health, but it can't be more true. Constantly working and exhausting myself will always make me even less productive.
  2. Trust your support and be open to new ideas. Your team is there to help you, and sometimes having another fresh perspective can help you clear your mind and inspire new approaches.
  3. Have a keen eye for innovation and inspiration. With the current state of technology, there is always a new tool coming out that you can leverage to take your business to the next level.
