Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pleas Williams, an Energy Therapist & Founder of Your Life Healing Center LLC, located in Midwest, OK, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an energy therapist helping people with physical, emotional, relational, mental, and spiritual issues. My customers range in age from 4 to 76 and live in multiple states, as I can do sessions in person, via phone, or via Zoom. My customers have the desire to improve their lives or get through a specific trauma.

Tell us about yourself

I've always enjoyed people, getting to know them, and doing life together. But after some traumatic events, I found myself struggling. I sought help with PTSD and other issues and found it. With counseling, energy therapy, friends, family, and prayer, I found a way to find more peace and joy and a better understanding of who I am. I trained with some wonderful instructors to learn energy therapy and combine that with my insights, intuition, a lifetime of experiences, education, and God's healing in my sessions. I wanted to help people find the freedom I found, and starting this business was my answer to that calling.

I'm motivated to help my clients. My goal is always for them to leave better than they came in. I want to see improvement in some aspect of their physical, emotional, relational, mental, or spiritual realm.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping people live more fulfilling lives. I help them find a way past difficulties, issues, patterns, or traumas that have affected them for days to decades. A person getting well enough not to see me again (except as an occasional check-in to make sure they are staying on track) is a success.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Knowing how much to charge your customers. Am I charging too much or too little? I want to attract customers with a good price, but I need to balance that with making expenses and valuing my time appropriately.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be sure to have enough capital to fund your business for at least two years when you start. I also own a resume and interview practice business that I used to fund the shortfall in expenses for this business for the first ten months until it became self-sufficient.
  2. Find the right location for your business. Rather than have my own office, I found a clinic I could rent space from. In addition to lower costs, I gained the synergy of a location with a licensed professional counselor (LPC), massage therapist, cranial and manual therapists, raindrop massage therapists, breastfeeding classes, and a physical trainer. Clients are exposed to all the offerings at the clinic, and each of us can gain business from clients that originally were looking for only one modality.
  3. Professionalism is so important. Get help from others as needed. If you don't do billing well, get billing help. If you don't spell well, get someone to proofread your website and documents to make sure you put forth a professional image. Treat customers with respect and dignity and let them know you appreciate their business, but remember you are not there to make them your friends.
