Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Megan Crawford, Owner of Your Job Search Coach, located in Wilmington, DE, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a career and job search coach specializing in helping women at every stage of their careers. My clients are individuals who want a new job due to a major life transition: becoming a parent, relocating, changing careers, creating a side gig, etc.

I love to help clients identify professional and personal goals, create a plan to achieve those goals, identify any obstacles in the way, and hold clients accountable for those goals.

Tell us about yourself

I started my career in recruiting and always loved talking to people about their career stories. What I didn't love were the broken hiring processes that are rampant in most companies. I learned so much about how hiring works, and I wanted to show candidates what it was really like to get hired.

I started coaching on the side, and eventually, it became my full-time job. It is very motivating to help people move closer to their ideal life and job. I believe everyone has the power to find a job that fits the life they want to lead.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment so far is building a business while having two small kids. I know what it's like to juggle a career shift while parenting and going through major life transitions. I also know how important it is to do the work to get to where you want to be.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Patience. When you have a vision in your brain of where you want your business to go, but you aren't there yet, It would be easy to give up, say it's too hard, and decide you'll never get to perfection, so why bother? What's harder and ultimately more rewarding is to keep moving forward anyway.

One of my favorite quotes is from Earl Nightingale, and I think of this quote often as a reminder to myself, "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal." There will never be one magic moment when your business is perfect as a practice. I focus on enjoying the long journey of becoming better and better each day

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

This is not the first iteration of my business, and it won't be the last. My top advice is to just start. You will learn so much just by starting.

It's also important to have a curious mindset—when things feel overwhelming, take a step back and try to understand the why behind the problem.

Last, but maybe most importantly, find a healthy way to de-stress and take a break (from work and other life commitments). I meditate twice a day, and it has been a game-changer for my health and well-being.
