Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Theresa Nutt, Owner of Your Deeper Calling, located in San Clemente, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Your Deeper Calling is a business designed to offer coaching, consulting, and energy healing to women who are ready to follow their deeper calling and live their life by design. I tend to work with women in their 30s-60s. I offer a 2-hour style.essence process that allows women to tune into who they are energetically at the deepest level (their essence) and then use that information to teach them how to dress in energetic alignment so they feel amazing and broadcast who they truly are into the world.

The essence brand makeover is the style.essence process plus an additional hour focused on identifying and communicating an essence-aligned brand. I offer individual life, health, and style coaching ala carte. I also offer a six-month deep dive intensive where women rediscover their essence, all of the ways they have been betraying their unique energetic design, and then walk with them as they choose aligned work, relationships, daily lifestyle choices, and other soul-aligned expressions for their lives.

Tell us about yourself

I got my start after being a nurse for a few years and realizing that a lot of what I was doing was helping people get just well enough to go home and come back again in a few months for more treatment. I wanted to get at health from a different perspective. At the same time, I was rear-ended by a semi when I was 23 and found everything about my life was shaken up. Though super challenging at the time, it led me on a lifelong journey of investigating integrative and holistic modalities to promote health and healing. I started with energy healing practices, meditation, and stress management and ended up training in life coaching.

My experience as a creative woman in the corporate world led me to feel weary of the daily grind. I disowned key pieces of who I was to fit in and get along until I chose to become more authentic and live in alignment with my soul. I went through a big transition and awakening. I redesigned my life to better match my most authentic and fulfilled self. I am now living my deeper calling to help women design the life they truly want to live so they can be energetically aligned with their soul's purpose too.

What motivates me is watching the energy of the new era usher in and seeing the challenges that are being brought to light so they can be transformed. Those who are empathic, wholehearted, and curious can help shift our reality, which is why I am driven to illuminate the pathway for hiding healers who are stepping into their sacred authority and owning their light.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Staying the course and saying yes to myself, my dreams, my creativity, and my vision. It's not easy to be an authentic, heart-centered business person. And yet, following my calling has been the greatest gift of my life. The transformation I see in the women I have the pleasure of working with is life-changing and life-affirming! That is my biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's all on you! As a corporate person, you have a steady paycheck, direction for your work, and a feeling of safety and security. As a business owner, you have to create that feeling for yourself. I think it brings up our greatest growth edges. Each level of growth and expansion in business creates opportunities for working through the mindset blocks and limitations that won't serve your next level of expression in the world. To me, it's as much an inside game as a strategy game.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust yourself and your heartsong. Your intuition, life experiences, and gifts are enough to provide meaningful service in the world. When we try to be more like anyone else, we lose the essence of what we are meant to express in the world.
  2. Learn from others what has worked, not to copy, but to stimulate ideas and find structures that make your business work for you. You need to be freed up to do the work that most lights you up and aligns with your natural gifts.
  3. Recognize that it takes time. It's easy to get frustrated and want to quit along the way. It can feel like it will take too long, require too many sacrifices, and ask too much of you. Momentum is always building, so trust your process.
