Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anjli Garg, Founder of Your Coach to Soar LLC., located in Jersey City, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As the founder and owner of YOUR COACH TO SOAR LLC, I specialize in helping high-achieving professional women avoid burnout and exhaustion and achieve the balance, meaning, and joy they crave. All without stepping back from their careers and families. I use a holistic approach that has paid dividends for my clients who have tried everything, including mindfulness, self-help, and time management techniques, to no lasting avail. I offer a unique combination of coaching and energy work to go deep to help my clients unearth and uproot stubborn subconscious patterns, such as perfectionism, over-giving, and never feeling enough. My clients walk away confident, lighter, and able to navigate the challenges of life with ease.

Tell us about yourself

I am a certified professional coach and have over 20 years of experience as a top-performing corporate lawyer (currently, Director, AGC at a Fortune 50 company). As a loving mom, WOC and immigrant, I understand the unique challenges of high-achieving professional women who are self-made, work in high-pressure careers and juggle caregiving responsibilities. I am also an energy healer, meditator, writer, and painter. I have spent years learning how to free myself from the paralysis of self-doubt and my harsh inner critic. Feeling like I was stumbling in the dark, I saw others, especially other women, trying to navigate through the same minefields. This motivated me to create tools and processes to help others within weeks, which took me years to accomplish. Helping others avoid suffering and soar into their genius and seeing the joy spread in their lives is what motivates me to coach.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking the plunge to be an entrepreneur with just a deep desire to be a coach and to serve others without a business plan and without a structure. As someone who has worked for established companies her whole life, creating something without guardrails was daunting and exhilarating at the same time. Just doing it has been an accomplishment in and of itself, and staying the course in the face of uncertainty.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There's no external manual when it comes to business ownership. I am making it up each day, and I am driving the ship. I have sought guidance from others, but at the end of the day, it's my own voice I tune into to tell me if this business is nourishing me and nourishing others. And connecting to that voice and heeding its call have been both the hardest and most rewarding parts of this business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you have a passion for something and you really love it, then go for it. Because that passion and desire will help fuel you to overcome any obstacle (self-created or external) that comes up and will also motivate you to stay the course.
  2. Put perfection to the side. Perfection implies that there's only one right way to do something, and one thing I've learned from running a business is that there's never one answer to a question, and following your heart, however counter-intuitive, will yield success faster than following someone's formula for success.
  3. It helps to have a financial cushion so you can let go of the outcome and expectation of a pace of growth. Nothing kills a business faster than forcing a positive financial outcome, especially in a service business, where your state of mind is so critical to success.
