What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is called Your Aging Therapist. My customers are community-based, mobile medicare aged patients who want to remain safe and independent in their homes.
Tell us about yourself
Your Aging Therapist (YAT) was an idea developed in 2020 after 16 years of working in nursing homes. I suddenly felt the burden of patients not receiving adequate therapy in that system and being underserved and discharged home unprepared. I decided to create my business model to address this gap and provide a better opportunity for patients to age in place.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishments are the relationships and trust that have been established in my community. I do what I say I'm going to do, and that goes a long way. I am proud that people know they can call us to provide exceptional therapy.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The balance of working ON the business and working IN the business. At some point, as the owner, you have to put on that hat and take a step back, knowing that those you've hired and trained will carry on the vision and mission.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Understand what the end goal is - Do you want to sell the business? Having a clear plan will continue to push and motivate you.
- Give yourself grace. Know that there are times when you will fail, and know how to take those times to learn from and grow.
- Get the right people on your bus! You cannot do this alone, and you must have the right people riding along and helping you!
