Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kate White, Owner and CEO of YogaBalance, located in Manchester, NH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Since 2004, YogaBalance’s mission has been to provide the ultimate yoga experience. We offer yoga classes, workshops, special events, and Yoga Teacher Training for anyone who is interested in joining us - complete beginners up to advanced practitioners. Our instructors are highly-professional and extremely well-trained, and we work hard to consistently provide the best quality, cleanliness, elegance, convenience, and value. We want to help people feel better (body, mind, and spirit) and experience health, happiness, and self-empowerment.

Tell us about yourself

I started practicing Yoga in 2007 as a means to manage stress, and I loved it! I did my first Yoga Teacher Training in 2008 and got my first teaching job here at YogaBalance in 2009. Shortly thereafter, I was hired as Studio Manager, worked my way up to Studio Director, and as of January 1, 2022, I am now the owner of the studio. I have the best job in the world and feel extremely privileged to get to share my love of Yoga every day and make a difference in people's lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Getting through COVID! We had to shut down for two and a half months and pivot to online classes and training, which was a huge learning curve for us. We have an incredible community that supported us throughout, and I am so grateful.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Work/life balance. YogaBalance is my passion, so sometimes it is hard to switch off and rest.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Hire an amazing team.
  2. Be flexible (no pun intended!) Be ready to work hard, put in the hours, and adapt as needed.
  3. You have to have passion. Running a business is hard, but if you have passion, you can make it through anything.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There is a famous quote that reads, "Saying you're not flexible enough for Yoga is like saying you're too dirty to take a bath." Yoga can work for everyone, but you just have to figure out what type of Yoga is best. If you are looking for guidance, please reach out!
