Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tristan Gatto, Founder of Yoga Prehab®, located in Tulum, Mexico USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Physical Therapist, Celebrity Yoga Trainer, and founder of Yoga Prehab® Online Mobility Courses. I help people over 40 build a self-care plan to regain youthful movement and overcome body stiffness.

Tell us about yourself

I first started my career as a professional singer/dancer and, after ten years in the business, realized the longevity of that career path is fairly short and becomes harder on your body as you age. I changed careers to the Physical Therapy field specializing in orthopedics, focusing on holistic functional movement incorporating yoga and Pilates elements.

Over time, I realized in the online space that I could serve and help heal more people through courses blended with Physical Therapy and yoga.
That is how Yoga Prehab® was born. My online courses went viral with DailyOM in 2017, selling 150k+ courses that have helped people worldwide who deal with chronic back pain, body stiffness, and knee/hip pain.

The most rewarding and motivating part of this business is all the beautiful responses I've received from people all over the world who have finally found relief with programs that work for them. Many times I've been reduced to tears from the stories I've received because I know what a difference this work has made in their lives. That is what keeps me going on this entrepreneurial journey, even on my hardest days.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

That I'm grateful to even still be here doing this! Lol. But truthfully, they say most businesses fail within the first 1-3 years. When I first started my business online, there weren't as many tools and resources available or even training on running a knowledge-based business.

Some highlights in the 5+ years I've been in the online space are I've been able to work with A-list celebrities, keynote speaker for Procter & Gamble, and helped thousands of people right from their homes during a period of time when the world was shut down, and the need for movement and healing was the greatest.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It can be a bit lonely as an entrepreneur. You spend a lot of time working both in and on the business. Most people don't see what's happening behind the scenes and how much heart and soul many of us put into our businesses, especially those who coach and serve.

You really have to have systems and self-care in place to manage the day-to-day while consistently showing up online for your clients. From my personal experience, I've continued to grow because I've seen the importance of challenging myself to learn all aspects of my own business, even when I thought it would just be easier to pay someone else to do it for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't rush and build your business in anxiety. This is where the biggest mistakes are made and will help you to avoid looking foolish and amateur. Confidence and clarity is the winner here.
  2. Learn every aspect of your business. Even if you're not remotely interested in some aspects, it's important that you know how your business runs inside and out. You will save yourself a ton of money and headaches learning the skills required to successfully run your business, and then you'll be able to hire out appropriately and confidently.
  3. Love what you do and let go of the fear. There are going to be days where you're going to wonder if you're even cut out for this journey. You'll question yourself. You'll have doubts and fears. But your love and having the guts to stick with it will make all the difference between success and failure. I spent the first few years of my business in constant fear and anxiety of failure. Truthfully, it was through my perceived failures that the most growth and learning came, which ultimately launched my business forward.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Right now, more than ever, is the best time to start an online business. In addition to self-care coaching and creating online healing courses, I've been mentoring and coaching entrepreneurs with their online coaching and knowledge-based businesses.

I've taken all the experience, mistakes, and challenges I've had over the years in my business to offer a practical and direct approach to avoiding common pitfalls and building the business they've always dreamed of.
