Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Jollie, Owner of Yoga Landing, located in Chattanooga, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Yoga Landing is a boutique studio that is passionate about welcoming people from all walks of life. It doesn't matter if you're a seasoned Yoga student or if you've never stepped foot on a mat when you're at Yoga Landing; you're home.

Tell us about yourself

My background is in counseling. I worked as a middle school counselor for many years. Over 30 years ago, my aunt introduced me to the practice of yoga after a very severe back injury. The practice allowed me to heal my body and seep into other parts of my life. It impacted me as an individual and the way I showed up for myself and the people around me. Sharing the incredible benefits of this practice is my passion. People come to Yoga Landing from all walks of life. We have cultivated an incredible community where people come to heal bodies, minds, and spirits, and they stay for the community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We intentionally cultivated Yoga Landing to be a place for everyone. We serve individuals who have never stepped foot on a mat or thought about their breath before coming to us. We are also a place where teachers come from all over to deepen their individual and teaching practice. Our ability to authentically serve and hold space for such a range of practitioners is something I am incredibly proud of as a studio owner.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I can be very fiery as a business owner. I pour my heart and soul into every aspect of the studio, and the practice and setting boundaries have been a journey. Through years of experience and through my own yoga practice, I have found a really sweet balance between supporting and trusting my team to run the business part of Yoga Landing. This trust allows me to separate myself from the work so I can focus on being a present parent to my young son, playing music with my husband, walking my dogs, cooking, and doing other things that bring me joy.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Listen. Listen to your intuition; listen to your community.
  2. Make sure you are doing it because you have a true passion for what you are doing.
  3. Constantly ask, "How can I help best" Stick to your mission, stay on task, and take it one day at a time.
