Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jaimie Sherling, founder of YDY, Sweets, located in Madison, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We all have challenges thrown our way - it's how we react to them that counts. Jaimie Sherling wrote From Queens to QUEENS: How the Madison Drag Community Saved My Life to share how she survived cancer and divorce.

Tell us about yourself

The implosion of my marriage started the book-writing process. I'm motivated to share my story, so others know they're not alone.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment came when reading the feedback from my book. It touched people in ways I never imagined.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The grind. When you work for yourself, there's no clocking in/out. You can literally always be working. So, it's important to set boundaries along the way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Plan your business well before you start.
  2. Learn from those who have gone before you and inspire you.
  3. Remind yourself often that people need what you have to share.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

As cliché as it is to say, take life one day at a time. Do what you can with what you have every day and be good to yourself.
