Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Yasmine ElGhamrawy, Owner and CEO of Yatlina, located in London, United Kingdom.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Yatlina is a company offering 100% natural aromatherapy products for use in your daily life. My clients value their physical and mental health and want to find a convenient way to incorporate aromatherapy into their daily routines.

Tell us about yourself

I started the business to share my love of aromatherapy and my knowledge of essential oils. I set out to create a safe and effective range of products grounded in science and looking at traditional use for inspiration. I am dedicated to bringing the best essential oils to your daily life and routines.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting the business and just going for it! It's been a very steep learning curve, but I count myself lucky to have started when I did. I had a successful career as a visual effects artist for 20 years, which gave me resilience and determination to stay goal-oriented. This has paid off slowly but surely. My first product launched during the height of the pandemic won an Editor's choice award in the UK. It was very well received and used by the on-stage set crew on several Hollywood movie sets that were filming in the UK at the time. Since then, I have expanded my product range and will be launching a new store online in the next few months after testing out products with people from all over the world to ensure each works well.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Multitasking. I have to juggle many tasks, and I can only hire part-time employees at this stage of my business, so everything takes longer to complete.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stay curious. Getting a certification or a degree is never the end, new research and advancements are happening all the time, and you should keep on top of things that relate to your work.
  2. Reach out to people. You will be surprised by how everyone wants to share their knowledge and help you if you ask the right questions.
  3. Stick to your goals. Set some guidelines for yourself and your business, and always refer back to them when things get overwhelming or you need help with how to proceed.
