What's your business, and who are your customers?
We help to launch or scale direct-to-consumer (DTC) e-commerce brands to avoid costly missteps by teaching them how to be successful working in-house out.
Tell us about yourself
I started the consultancy in 2017 because I saw brands wasting so much time and money in DTC e-commerce. A common theme was that there was too much to do, too little time to do it, and cash constraints. I saw more brands fail to grow or shut their doors than brands thrive online. I love what I do because I help people directly learn how to avoid those issues and actually feel confident growing their e-commerce performance. Businesses are often messy environments, but I love getting into the complexity of it all to help my clients take control.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is seeing a client come to me with an uncompetitive DTC e-commerce capability as an organizational capability and then watching them improve to compete with their best competitors online. When they start playing the game well themselves because of our work together, instead of relying on me, it feels great.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It can be difficult to see the forest for the trees in your own business, even when you help your clients to do that. It takes real intentionality and systems being in place to work in and on the business consistently and in the proper amounts.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you offer a unique value relative to your competitors.
- Build a plan for affordably and consistently getting your business in front of your target audience. If you don't have this plan, you need to build it right away.
- Keep your "why" clearly in front of you each day so that you can live the life you want to live.
