Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Yancy Berry, Addiction Recovery Life Coach, based in West Hollywood, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’m a life coach who works with groups and individuals on personal and spiritual development. My focus is love!! I help people to live from a place of immense love and trust for themselves and the universe. From that place, they will achieve great success and enjoy the process.

Tell us about yourself

I got into it because after being a personal trainer for over a decade and winning the lifetime achievement award for excellence from Equinox fitness clubs, I knew that there were deeper ways to connect with people and help them grow in all areas of their lives. I do what I do because nothing brings me more joy than helping people have personal breakthroughs, and there’s absolutely no downside! It’s all upside!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Giving a wellness talk to the University of Southern California’s IT department recently. It means a lot to me because I grew up in Los Angeles and always idolized USC. So to be in the place where my expertise is at the level that I can teach people of this caliber says a lot. I’ve worked with more than 100 coaching clients, a number of which were prominent or famous, but this was a real testament to how far I’ve come.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing multiple hats and being in charge of it all. It takes a lot of focus and knowing how to stay centered and take continual action to make sure that I can properly take care of myself and others.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It may be cliché, but you have to absolutely love what you do! If you’re not entrenched in the love and purpose of your business, there will likely be too many moments that are difficult for you to make it through otherwise.
  2. You have to take care of your body and mind as well as your business. Long-term success isn’t possible unless you do, so include daily habits that increase your overall health. I broke down physically about nine years ago because all I did was work. It was a beautiful lesson because it made me prioritize internal well-being to fortify external success.
  3. Lighten up! Find joy because you can have all the “success” in the world, but if you’re not happy, you lose the game of life.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Yes. Every single person reading this deserves the life of their dreams! Blessings!
