The Power of Gamification - Xperiencify

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Murray Gray, Co-Founder of Xperiencify, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're the world's only gamification-first learning management system, supporting course creators around the world to be more successful with their courses, programs, memberships, and info-products!

Tell us about yourself

We were solving a problem in our own business, basically. We've been making courses for our students for over ten years, and we noticed that not enough students were completing the courses they were buying from us. We did some digging, talked to folks in the course industry, and discovered the online education industry's big "dirty secret," which is that, on average, less than 10% of students complete and get results from the courses they buy.

We felt responsible to do everything we could to HELP our students get better results, and one day discovered the concept of gamification. After a few experiments, we realized that the more gamification we added to our own courses, the more students actually finished them and got huge results. One thing led to another, and we found ourselves in the software business, and now we're the world's most advanced gamified course hosting environment available today.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment has to be not accepting what other people considered to be a problem that couldn't be solved (the big "dirty secret" that I mentioned before) and finding a way to solve it that our paying customers LOVED. Now we're helping thousands of course-creators around the world to do the same with THEIR students!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Fluctuating cash flow, emotional ups and downs, and working with and developing our team are the most challenging parts of being a business owner for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Spend way more time than you think to validate your idea before you get to work building. Don't guard it or keep it secret. Share your business idea with as many people as you can. Nobody's going to steal your idea — they love their own ideas way more than yours, trust me, LOL.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Building a business is the ultimate form of personal development — you'll learn more about yourself than you ever wanted or thought possible. I encourage everybody to give it a shot — it's worth the effort to build something of your own.
