Tell us about yourself
I've been enthralled with entrepreneurship since I was a teenager. My first business was lawn care when I was about 15 years old. I started Xenia Roastery because I noticed a void in the specialty coffee market related to minority-owned-and-operated commercial coffee roasting companies. Once I began to learn more about the origins of coffee and coffee itself, I wanted to share my knowledge, love, and passion for not only coffee but also humanity with the world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being able to hire folks and being able to pay them routinely! For Xenia Roastery to be almost three years old is a marvel. I come from very humble beginnings, and a lot of what I am doing are firsts.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is finding Xenia's lane and avenue for continued success in such a crowded market.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Plan things for your business, review the plans, then revise them accordingly.
- Figure out what works and what doesn't work for your business, then adjust accordingly to what works for someone else's business may not work for yours.
- Find a support system to learn from and lean on in your business arena.
