Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Terri Dietz, owner of Wyao Hawaii, located in Honolulu, HI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We love inspiring and supporting an organization's well-being culture with wellness solutions that are fun, impactful, holistic, and integrative! We strive to meet you and your organizations where you are! We work with many types of organizations to include, hotels, engineering firms, and insurance companies ranging in all sizes, small, medium, and large.

Tell us about yourself

WYAO Hawaii was born from my life's purpose statement: to fearlessly engage in my own wellness and well-being to UNLEASH energy that will help inspire others so we can all live our best lives! I have worked for many different companies but to own and operate my own company with this vision allows us to reach organizations and people in a way that authentically unleashes energy, creates safety, support and direction to allow organizations and their team to step into their best SELVES!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

This might sound silly, but for me, being in business for more than five years has been a HUGE accomplishment! Especially with the chaotic challenges, we have all been dealing with over the past two years!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not getting too overcome by social media! Learning the balance! One of my mentors told me only post when you have something to say and only when there is true energy behind it! WOW, the light bulb went on for me! The second hardest thing is admitting you do not know everything and reaching out for help! I have help from my accountant, and CPA keeps our finances in order! Makes the end of the year and tax time LESS stressful! BUT BE involved with the finances, though! I have quarterly meetings and still write all the checks!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I think I have a top 5 list, but for starters:

  1. Know and define your life's purpose! And this will tie nicely into your work's purpose!
  2. Get a mentor! (AND you do outgrow mentors, and it's ok.) Have a support network.
  3. Know your top 5 strengths and your top weaknesses and get support to bridge the gap between the two!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Love what you do! Be authentic! Take breaks to take care of yourself! Have fun!
