Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Leah Gordon, Founder and CEO of Womanhood Wellness, located in Encinitas, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Womanhood Wellness™ is a natural wellness education platform where a woman can get honest and easy-to-understand education, functional medicine recommendations, and the empowerment she is not getting at her regular doctor visits.

We fill in the gaps in the areas of women's health that are not being talked about enough, inside or outside of the doctor's office. The emphasis is on the seasons of a woman's life before she becomes a mother, from breaking up with birth control to hormone and period support to pregnancy prep and fertility, all the way through infertility and IVF support.

We offer accessible education and support in the form of masterclasses, courses, and group programs, as well as laboratory testing options, supplement support, and one on one coaching. We serve mostly women in their 20's through early 40's who dreams of becoming a mom soon, or someday, as well as their partners when it comes to fertility and conception.

Tell us about yourself

I am a passionate naturopathic doctor and women's health educator, and I have known I wanted to be a doctor and own my own company since I was 15. After a decade of school to become a doctor, I started my own medical practice, allowing me to support hundreds of patients in a whole-body, root-cause, and holistic way. This eventually led me to create Womanhood Wellness™ so that I could have an even greater impact on women, our future children, and the world. I am motivated every day to support women in the seasons of womanhood that I personally have struggled in. There were many times when I thought, "Why does everything that has to do with being a woman have to be so hard for me?" From painful periods and gut issues to issues with birth control, low libido, and male-factor infertility requiring my husband and me to go through IVF to conceive, I have a lot of personal experiences that I have learned so much from that I love sharing with the world. I also see the broken medical system we are all navigating, how little my patients and clients are being served by regular doctors, and how little education and support they receive when it comes to women's hormone, reproductive, and sexual health. This is why I do what I do, and I love it!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is building two separate passion-driven businesses where I have been able to impact thousands of lives, all while navigating infertility and then eventually pregnancy and a new baby. I believe women are amazing; we are able to birth new ideas and new life into the world, and I feel honored to have done both. I am so proud of what my brain and body have been able to achieve over the past few years, and I hope my journey inspires other women to follow their dreams and passions and change the world.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

When you are an entrepreneur, there is no roadmap you are following. You are drawing the map and following it at the same time. For me, this has brought uncertainty, overwhelm, burnout, and a lot of time and resources figuring out what my map is even leading to. It has involved many long days, long nights, and a lot of self-discovery that has been challenging at times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take the time to get clear on your vision before you begin, but know that it is a constant evolution and will constantly be changing.
  2. Look into the power of manifestation and match your frequency with that of your dream; it is the magic behind most successful people.
  3. Surround yourself with inspiring mentors, coaches, and friends. You will become who you spend your time with.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I believe if you have a dream in your heart, it is meant for you to create and bring it into this world. Don't let your ego, past, trauma, or small-minded thinking of others discourage you or keep you small. Do what brings you joy, and do it well.
