Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mike Claudio, Owner of WinRate Consulting, located in Lyman, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a business coaching and consulting company focused on Home service and residential construction companies.

Tell us about yourself

While my formal training is in the corporate setting, I've always been pulled toward smaller companies where I could work with entrepreneurs to help them bring significant changes to grow their businesses. I was a great salesman, but I found my love and passion for the construction industry's people, processes, and services.

So when I was allowed to work with a residential general contracting business in Charlotte, I jumped at the idea of using my experiences and training to help create a sales and client management system specifically for this market.

I have proven my system and processes to Identify, Target, Qualify and Acquire clients' works. With a heavy focus on communication, follow-through, and follow-up, I believe any company can increase sales and profits, and I want to be the one to help you do that!

I brought massive success to companies I worked for, but I want to help more business owners get out of the daily grind and develop a business that worked for them instead of wearing them out. Since starting WinRate Consulting, I have helped hundreds of paying clients and 10's of thousands of business owners through my free online content on my podcast and YouTube channel.

I have been on dozens of stages and spoken in front of thousands of people to get the message across that YOU can be different, YOU can dream bigger, and YOU can make it come to life! At this point, I am 100% confident I can help any size business improve, I can help any owner or leader create better habits and more disciplined life, and I can change the culture of a company into a place people want to work instead of constant frustrations and lack of buy-in!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to scale a one-on-one consulting company with very high-performing CEOs on my team. Taking these men from business owners and helping them find purpose in helping others.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Consistency in the effort with unclear outcomes at times. Carrying every decision and the decision fatigue that comes from that.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a very clear understanding of your mission, vision, and core values. These will be the basis of every decision you make in business.
  2. Hire for values, not talent. You can teach talent, but you can't teach values.
  3. Understand who your ideal client is and only work with those. Don't chase money just because you can.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Everything in life can be given and taken from you one decision at a time. You can accomplish anything by focusing on one decision at a time. Once you have success, it only takes one decision at a time to lose it. Stay focused on the next decision, and everything will fall into place.
