What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a takeaway in Penzance, Cornwall, focusing on fresh, tasty fried chicken, burgers, waffles, and milkshakes. Our customers are anybody and everybody. Our menu has something for all age groups. People travel from each end of Cornwall to try our food, and we are very grateful for the support.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a chef for ten years, working across Devon and Cornwall. In the first lockdown in 2020, I had an idea to start up a takeaway at my house with my partner Hannah. We cooked 50 meals a night, and she delivered them out to the community. It was very stressful cooking from home, but I was then given the opportunity by some kind people to cook from their community kitchen in a small village where we got a real name for our business and built up a reputation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment to date is purchasing our own house cafe/takeaway, where we open six days a week serving our delicious food.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
At the moment I think it has to be the rising cost of living, which reflects on everything we buy, and our menus prices have to increase slightly, which I don’t like doing to our customers.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
