Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tabbin Almond, Founder of Wine to Water Coaching, located in Exeter, Devon, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I coach people who feel that they are drinking more than they would like to help them find freedom from alcohol. My typical clients are relatively senior professional people whose drinking has crept up on them. They generally have a lot of shame and guilt about their drinking.

Tell us about yourself

I struggled in my own relationship with alcohol. I tried both AA and hypnotherapy, but neither of these methods afforded me long-term sobriety. Then I discovered This Naked Mind. I signed up for a 3-month intensive course, and after only a few weeks, I was joyfully alcohol-free and have remained so ever since. I was so impressed with how different I felt that I decided I wanted to 'pay it forward.'

I undertook rigorous coach training through the This Naked Mind Institute and was certified towards the end of 2020. At that stage, I was coaching in the evenings and at weekends, alongside a full-time job working for an advertising agency. But I loved the coaching so much and found it so rewarding that I left my job earlier this year, and I am now a full-time coach. It is easily the best decision I have ever made, and my strong sense of purpose means that work never feels like work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Within six months, I have been able to build up a strong client base and have all but replaced my advertising salary. And although the credit for this must go to my clients, as I am only their coach, everyone I have coached is either totally alcohol-free already or well on their way to being so.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It might sound strange, given that I have a background in advertising, but I really had no knowledge of the nuts and bolts of social media, and I had never built a website, let alone a transactional one. So, technology has certainly been the biggest challenge for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The three things which have been of greatest benefit to me starting out are:

  1. Following my passion - I am doing what I absolutely love doing, so it never feels like work.
  2. A spirit of abundance rather than scarcity - there are so many people who need help!
  3. Having a great team around me - the TNMI Mastermind group, my own business coach, and the wonderful team who handles all of my social media - they are all brilliant and challenging in equal measure.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I honestly have no regrets; I believe that is because I am doing something I really believe in.
