Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristy Redmon, founder and president of Windy Hill Hemp, located in Franktown, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Windy Hill Hemp is a family-owned farm that produces award-winning, full-spectrum, solvent less CBD products from organically grown small-batch Colorado industrial hemp. We aim to allow you to lead a more active life and reduce the need for prescription drug therapies.

Tell us about yourself

As a practicing pharmacist of over 20 years, I saw the devastation of the opioid crisis firsthand. This frustration led me down the path of exploring industrial hemp as a natural plant-based alternative to prescription medications. The ability to produce a product that enhances someone’s quality of life without being habit-forming is what really makes me tick. If that isn’t motivation enough, it’s so exciting to go to work each day and see our products materialize from the actual plant. The organic farm-to-market approach is where I’ve found my calling.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I consider it to be a huge accomplishment every single time one of our products helps someone sleep better, reduces their pain or anxiety, manages their seizures, or helps their pets. I’m truly grateful when people take the time to let us know that we make a difference in their lives.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management is the biggest challenge for me as a business owner. Because we’re family-owned and operated, it can be difficult to find a balance between work time and family time. I’m constantly reminding myself that it’s important to step away once the work is done and have some family fun!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Commitment - Believe in yourself, have a plan, and commit to providing the best product or service in your space.
  2. Focus – Don’t lose sight of where you’re going because there are lots of roadblocks along the way.
  3. Perseverance - Expect tough times and learn to be flexible without compromising your mission.
