Interested in starting your own freelance business as a leadership coach, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sara Sabin, the founder of Sara Sabin Transformational Leadership Coaching, a transformational coach focused on successful business leaders, located in London, UK.

Tell us all about your business...

I believe that a new type of leader is necessary for an exponentially changing business world. I work with leaders and founders of high growth, successful businesses, ready to take things to the next level and 10X, through developing themselves and their teams.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a leadership coach?

I have been a start-up founder and entrepreneur myself for the last 5.5 years. Back in 2019, I really wanted to find out what my purpose was and how I could do that through my work.

I discovered transformational coaching myself, and knew that that was also the work that I wanted to do with leaders and entrepreneurs. I bring all of my coaching and consulting experience to the table with my clients, to bring them a solution that helps transform them from the inside out.

My big mission motivates me - I want to create a new generation of ethical leaders and entrepreneurs, who care about making a positive impact in the world through what they do. Focusing on purpose before profit yields greater profit and sustainability in the long term.

As a leadership coach, what does success ultimately mean to you?

Success is taking small steps every day towards my big mission.

It means working with clients and businesses that I love, loving the work that I do, and getting amazing transformations for my clients.

It means having time flexibility and making great money doing work that I love.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?

Resilience. There will be downs, there will be rejection. There will be people that 'don't get it'. Continuing to take consistent action each and every day, even when you aren't seeing the results is key to being a successful entrepreneur. Continuing to focus on the big picture and having faith that things will work out, even when they're not going so well is hard, but so necessary to success.

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a business today?

1. Just start - there'll never be the ideal time to start something. Set a goal, and break it down into steps and consistent action.

2. Don't do it alone - getting the right support can help you to accelerate so much faster. Whether that's a coach or a mentor, or hiring a part time VA to do some of the admin!

3. Focus, focus, focus - so many entrepreneurs can't focus on a few key things at a time. It really hampers success. Pick what you want to focus on and if it works, keep doing it.

If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?

Always be thinking about the next level. Most people dream too small. I encourage entrepreneurs to set moonshot goals - goals that are really big. When obstacles come up, you might need to change the steps you take towards the goal, but not the goal itself. Always be prepared to be agile and adapt.

What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance and to keep it all together?

I make sure I get out for a walk/run in nature every day.
I pay close attention to my energy levels, so that I know that I know when I need to take it a bit easier.
I'm lucky because I have a partner that keeps me grounded!

Who are some of your favorite entrepreneurs and best business resources/books?

I respect Richard Branson and love the way that he focuses on treating his employees well, and Jack Ma because of his resilience in overcoming failure and admitting his limitations, and Steve Jobs for his visionary qualities.

Great books for entrepreneurs to read: The Dip by Seth Godin; Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill; Shift Your Mind, Shift The World by Steve Chandler
