Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Church, founder of Wholeview Wellness, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Wholeview Wellness is a boutique outpatient addiction treatment center located in Midtown Manhattan that uses state-of-the-art, science-based techniques, technology, and highly trained doctoral-level psychologists to provide patients with the highest quality therapeutic experience in addiction treatment. We provide exceptionally compassionate care for patients and families struggling with alcohol, the misuse of pain medication, and other substances.

Tell us about yourself

I am a psychologist who has a passion for treating patients who want to change their use of alcohol and drugs. I wanted to create a treatment program that made it easy to begin treatment but that also made it compelling to stick with treatment. It was important to me for people to feel comfortable from the outset and to even enjoy the treatment. We use an approach called Community Reinforcement Approach which encourages patients to increase pleasurable activities that crowd out alcohol and drug use. So, we want treatment to be one of the reinforcing activities that patients enjoy. Once in the treatment, they can start to build a life that is so enjoyable that they are not pulled back into alcohol and drug use time and time again.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have a deeply held belief that people struggling with alcohol and drug use deserve professional treatment that works, and I believe that I've created a program that offers just that.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say that as an entrepreneur and a clinician, one of the biggest struggles is finding and hiring the brightest, most compassionate, and most well-trained clinicians. Building and maintaining an incredibly talented team takes a lot of work!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Listen carefully to your customers when they tell you what they need.
  2. Give what your customers are looking for, even if it takes a little more work.
  3. Treat even a person who calls like a rock star!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

In building a business, I can't emphasize how important it is to be trustworthy and reliable, both for your patients and for referral sources.
