What's your business, and who are your customers?
At Wholesome Diaper Co., we provide weekly deliveries of cloth diapers, and we pick up the dirty diapers to be washed and sanitized. We provide this in two markets - Dallas-Fort Worth, TX, and Milwaukee, WI. Our goal is to help parents use cloth diapers without the hassle of laundering dirty diapers in their home washing machine. This makes it easier for busy families to make healthy, eco-friendly choices that are better for their baby's skin and for the environment.
Tell us about yourself
I started my business because I wanted to cloth diaper but found the idea of extra laundry insurmountable on top of having twins. I knew there were other parents in the same situation. It's important for eco-friendly products to be just as convenient as their single-use plastic counterparts in order for more people to consistently make that choice.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
To date, we've kept over a quarter of a million diapers out of landfills and empowered parents in making healthy choices for their little ones.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the challenges I've faced is growing my business when it's not quite profitable yet. It's such a challenge when your business is growing, but it's not yet profitable for you to quit your day job. On top of the other responsibilities of life and motherhood, this can be an exciting but challenging season. It's worth it when you achieve your goals, though!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Keep your upfront costs low and build slowly and steadily.
