Tell us about yourself

I am a lifelong athlete and endurance sports lover! From the age of 6 through college, I was a competitive swimmer spending most of my early mornings, after school, and weekends at practice or a swim meet. Endurance sports created a drive and tenacity in me that transferred to every area of my life. I loved the discipline of training and the power I felt when I could challenge myself mentally and physically.

Very early in my life, I realized exercising always made me feel better mentally, emotionally, and physically. Swimming was always an outlet for me as I was growing up. As a young woman, I struggled with my emotions and understanding how to love myself as an emotional, passionate, and ambitious person. I was often called bossy, moody, and intimidating by my peers and those around me. Experiencing that made me feel less as if there was something wrong with me. I quickly learned to keep a wall up at all costs and shut people out. Swimming was the only place I felt in control of myself and my body.

After completing my competitive swimming career, I quickly came to the realization that I needed something to fill the time and emotional void I had filled with swimming. I noticed that without that time being filled, I was experiencing a great deal of stress and anxiety. I began challenging myself in another endurance sport, running, in 2008. Running became my cure for the stress, anxiety, and unhappiness I was experiencing as a young adult. Running was my peace. Running healed me, but it also robbed me of experiencing happiness while I was racking up the miles (something very similar to what I had experienced in my years of competitive swimming).

I spent years running to get away from problems, negative experiences, unfulfilling jobs, health issues, and the negative mindset that was slowly wrecking my life. I used my endurance sport as a way to process and work things out, but ultimately I still felt stuck.

When I started down my path of healing, I began to heal my mind and my heart. I realized that if I could change my negative thoughts, mindset, and habits, I could also change my experience and relationship with endurance sports. I realized that I didn't always have to run to manage the pain and discontent in my life. I began to work towards training in my endurance sport for the pure joy it brought me, to feel powerful, and to be present in my life and the nature around me. I stopped seeing running as something that helped me escape my unfulfilled life but something that helped elevate my life. By doing this, I began to change other areas of my life that I was unhappy with as well. I changed careers, began to heal my past limiting beliefs, made positive and lasting connections with empowered friends who elevated me vs. tore me down, set boundaries, and, most importantly, learned to love myself just as I was.

Now my love for endurance sports is a source of empowerment for me, not an outlet for pain. Endurance sport is what makes my soul radiate, and it is what makes my heart swell with joy. Through the years, I've trained for multiple endurance sports competitions, and what I've learned during my journey is that I've stepped into a more powerful version of myself and my life. Endurance sport is no longer a time to work out the negativity in my life. It is a time for loving myself and my life. My journey hasn't been just about endurance sports. It has been about my health, my mindset, my habits, and my healing. Now I work with athletes coaching them to train in an empowered state so they can love their endurance sport and their life!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is creating a life and training experience that I am happy to live and train in daily and empowering others to do the same!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is finding the space to just be yourself, not the owner of your company, not the coach to the clients, not the marketing team, not the social media manager, not all the hats you wear, just yourself. Finding time to be yourself outside of your business is something that is imperative to creating a work-life balance that you love so you can continue to thrive in your business and life!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The top three pieces of support I'd like to share with anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business today are:

  1. Someone who is less "qualified" and has less "experience" is already doing what you want to do! Take the leap with what you have NOW! Don't wait for the next certification, next degree, etc. You are enough now!
  2. Become confident in the power of the ASK! The worst someone can say is "no" or simply not reply. Ask the question, pitch the idea, share the program, and ask for a meeting. The power of the ASK builds confidence and allows you to get comfortable with the opportunity that you create!
  3. Owning your own business is not all sunshine and rainbows. Some days will be hard. Some days you'll think you've made the wrong decision. Ride the wave. Know at your core your WHY and get creative in moments of defeat. You CAN create the life you want!
