Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danny Star, CEO of Website Depot, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business is omnichannel digital marketing. That means we help our clients develop and grow their brands on many platforms across the internet. Through this, they can connect to more of their potential customers. At Website Depot, we have customers in a wide variety of industries, although we specialize in attorneys, rehab/treatment centers, cosmetic surgeons, and others.

Tell us about yourself

It all started when I worked for my dad’s local publishing and printing company. We edited a local weekly newspaper and monthly magazine that ran nationwide in Slovenia. What motivates me each day is that my team and I help our clients who, by growing their businesses, are able to help more people in turn. It’s a very real way of “paying it forward.”

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say that the biggest accomplishment is keeping the company going for so long. Website Depot has been going strong for more than a decade now and is continuing to grow. The biggest accomplishment is that we’re still here, and we’re still thriving.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is realizing the company has grown to the point where you have to be more selective about the clients you take on. We’re very grateful to have grown to the point where we can have so many clients, but to make sure that we’re helping our clients as well as ourselves, we’ve had to become more selective about who we take on.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure that you’re getting everything you can out of your website.
  2. Traditional, “classic” digital marketing is not enough anymore. You need truly omnichannel digital marketing. To reach as many of your prospective customers as possible, you need to be well-represented on as many platforms as possible.
  3. Even with the rise of online omnichannel digital marketing, offline marketing is not dead, far from it. When handled properly, it can augment what you’re doing online.
