Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Spencer, Co-Founder of Warriors & Whiskey LLC., located in Jacksonville, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Warriors & Whiskey is a whiskey experience company that is rooted in bringing people together through whiskey. We host the Veterans’ Whiskey Club, Warriors & Whiskey Club, and the Veterans’ Cigar Club on Facebook. We are currently about 30K members strong! Please join us!

Giving back to the veteran community is at the heart of everything we do, and we hold events to raise funds for under-funded veteran charities. We also have our own whiskey (Brass & Anchor) coming out next month, and we also sell whiskey-related apparel.

Tell us about yourself

Having forged many bonds of friendship during combat and military service, we understand that at the root of every friendship and every community lies a foundation of shared interests and experiences. In December 2020, we founded Warriors & Whiskey to cultivate a community of whiskey enthusiasts bound by our shared interests in the greatest distilled spirit in the world.

The company is owned by three Navy guys that collectively have served over 70 years. Tom McLendon is a retired P-3 Pilot, Milo Kaciak is a retired Naval Flight Officer, and I am an active duty Master Chief.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment to date is about to be realized through our whiskey Brass & Anchor. We meticulously picked barrels and blended them to create a unique flavor profile.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For us, it has been getting the word out about our products and events. Social media has helped, but we continue to look for unique ways to get our brand out.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Success will come. It may not be overnight, but if you put in the work, success will follow.
  2. Find a mentor within your niche. They will be a sounding board and someone to run ideas by.
  3. Learn from your missteps. Be sure to catalog when something doesn’t work and find ways to evolve so that it will work.
