Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Russell Nohelty, Owner of Wannabe Press, located in Long Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have several businesses. The one most associated with me currently is Wannabe Press, which is a publishing company of fantasy, science fiction, and horror graphic and prose novels. However, I have another company called Writer MBA, which helps authors build better businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a USA Today bestselling author of many books and comics, along with a speaker and publisher. I started working in publishing because it was something I could do without relying on many other people, and then I started teaching when it became clear there wasn't much good information out there about how to publish books well.

I do this work because people still need to hear it. I have many fans who tell me how much my work means to them, and mostly now, I do it for them and to find more people who I can help as well.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to survive for seven years through all the trials and tribulations of owning a business and being able to thrive through all that time.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Every year, every week, every day, and sometimes every hour is different even when revenue is consistent, the products and services that make up that revenue change constantly.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Learn how to be flexible and adaptable.
  2. Always be on the lookout for new lines of business, but don't dive in without doing your homework.
  3. Winners quit all the time.
