Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shalea Walker, owner of Walker's Apothecary, located in Jersey City, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a skincare business comprised of facial services and facial products. I have clients of all ages and genders, from babies to teenagers to senior citizens. I offer customized skincare products on site. I make skincare products tailored to your specific needs at the time.

Tell us about yourself

I was always into skincare and fragrance. I suffered from acne as a teenager, and that moved me to be more holistic about finding natural remedies for my skin. I am motivated by showing people that they are seen and their conditions can be healed and improved with knowledge and self-care.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is having a vision and being able to see it come to fruition.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Work-life balance has to be the hardest. The work never ends, so you have to learn how to prioritize yourself and self-care despite your workload.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Approach obstacles with a creative mindset, know your strengths, and work on your weaknesses, don't be afraid to ask, get or pay for the help that you need.
