Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stephen Frenkel, Founder of Voyager Executive Consulting, LLC, located in West Hartford, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an executive coach and team performance consultant. I work with leaders, teams, and organizations that want to be their very best. Most of the time, this happens during periods of transition or transformation, but not always.

Tell us about yourself

I have over 20 years of coaching and consulting experience. I've worked as an inside resource and an external consultant for large global organizations as well as local mom and pops and not-for-profits. My goal is to help take the stress and frustration out of the workplace. I believe that when people are happy at work, when they feel seen, valued, and appreciated when they are aligned with their work and their workplace, they have more energy and patience at home and in their communities, where it matters most.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am most proud of the trusting relationships I've been able to build with my clients. My book of business is diverse and varied - I like it that way because it means that I am truly meeting my clients where they are and helping them solve their problems, whatever they are.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a business owner, I have to have a great deal of discipline in running my business. I need to be the visionary, the operations, and the technician. It's a lot to manage and balance, and it's a lot of fun!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You have to dive in fully. Nothing big and successful happens when you dip a toe in the water.
  2. Leverage your network - it's about your connections and the goodwill you have built within your community.
  3. There is no "one right way." Listen to others and learn how it's been done before, then listen to yourself and do what feels good, do what feels right.
