Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Cao, CMO and Managing Partner of Vicky Bakery Enterprises, located in Miami, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Vicky Bakery is a classic Cuban bakery. Offering everything from catering packages to a quick Cafecito to enjoy with your loved ones, we are honored to keep our Cuban traditions going in the communities we serve!

Tell us about yourself

Vicky Bakery has been a family business for 50 years! We are a tight-knit family, and being able to continue the business started from the generation before, brings our family a huge sense of accomplishment. From our humble beginnings in Cuba to moving to South Florida with hope, passion, and dreams, we have worked hard and thrived to achieve the American Dream. Now with our growth and franchising opportunities, it brings us great joy to help entrepreneurs realize their own dreams can be a possibility.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are extremely humbled when we hear from our customers about how Vicky Bakery has been part of their family traditions for generations. And it brings us such joy to introduce new customers as well to our Cuban culture and its recipes. Being a part of the company’s growth has been a great accomplishment for all of us. To think we started with one location and now have 17 (and growing) brings us great pride, as we are making the traditions and flavors more accessible to other areas, in addition to our nationwide shipping! We cannot wait to see where our bakery locations will take us next!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is you don’t have a day off. You’re on call 24/7 because when you own your own business as we do, anything and everything must be handled timely. It’s important that we stay on top of things!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Remember to always dream big!
  2. If you work hard, the rest will fall into place.
  3. Patience is key!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being a business owner has empowered us as a company to leave a positive legacy and impact on our community. We have partnered with countless nonprofit organizations, charities, and schools to give back. It’s part of our core values, and we are grateful to be in the position to give back.
