Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dallis Luna, Owner of LUNA Therapy & Lifestyle, located in Red Deer, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Luna Therapy & Lifestyle is a trauma therapy practice focusing on fertility, birth, and postpartum trauma. In addition to providing psychology services to adults who are recovering from traumatic events, I train doulas and birth professionals to effectively work with trauma in 'The Trauma Competent Doula' course and share stories of individuals who have undergone a spiritual awakening after a traumatic event on my podcast: 'Post-Traumatic Shift.'

Tell us about yourself

When I was a child, my grandmother introduced me to the concept of the subconscious mind through dream analysis. These are some of my earliest memories, and I recall being very fascinated by the mysteries of our minds. This ultimately led me into the field of psychology and becoming a masters-level psychologist. More recently, I have been motivated by my own experiences of trauma and motherhood and my clients' experiences to share my trauma expertise with other professionals through an online course. My clients have also sparked an interest in me to go beyond the subconscious and explore the intersection of spirituality and trauma. I love being able to guide my clients through trauma recovery and watching them become their truest selves.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

At this time in my career, I would say my biggest accomplishment is finding the happy medium between motherhood and working toward my business goals. It isn't something I achieve every day necessarily, but I have found the balance on more days than not.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest thing about being a business owner is staying in the flow. What I mean by flow is the moments when you are really in sync with your intuition, and everything is coming effortlessly. It can be easy to get caught up in what you think you "should" be doing and lose sight of your internal guidance. This always leads to feeling "stuck" or like you are spinning your wheels. Getting back in the flow and connecting with my intuition is always the solution to any challenge I am facing as a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Align your business decisions with your intuition first and foremost. Your intuition will never lead you astray in business or life.
  2. Welcome mistakes and challenges as learning experiences. You can't possibly know everything there is to know from the outset. Making mistakes is a critical part of success.
  3. Prioritize having fun. If it's not fun, figure out how to make it more fun. This is not just your business; it's your life. Let it be fun!
