What's your business, and who are your customers?
A food manufacturing company that provides meals to schools. We make fresh, diverse, delicious, nutritious meals for underserved communities.
Tell us about yourself
My love for innovation and helping others drive me to work in the school food system. We have created a social enterprise that not only focuses on tasty meal items but also educates families in the culinary arts. We have an entrepreneurial program geared towards 17-24-year-olds to provide opportunities after High School.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have accomplished being certified as a minority-owned, woman-owned, veteran-led company. We are known in our industry as a leader in quality meals.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As I continue to grow our company, I find that there are many food inequalities and injustices. My goal is to nourish and build strong communities around the world. The more we can educate and build partnerships, we can minimize food waste.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My entrepreneurial program focuses on:
- Nurturing the entrepreneurial mindset. You have to want it and believe in it to achieve it.
- Understand the importance of good credit and have a basic business proposal.
- Learn the basic differences between entities and officers.
- Find a field you love, and you will stay motivated.
- Expect to work more hours on your business than you would at a job.
- Don’t be afraid to fail; failure leads to success
