Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amanda Thompson, CRO, and President of VERIBELLA, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Born from the desperate pursuit to find high-performance skincare products that were made from honest, clean ingredients that were safe to use daily, VERIBELLA was thoughtfully curated to deliver on the skincare promises made. VERIBELLA serves customers who want simplified self-care experiences, luxurious formulations that feel good to wear, results they can feel and see in the mirror, and ingredients that they can trust.

Tell us about yourself

Skincare has been part of my DNA since I can remember. From DIY skincare in my kitchen as a teen to the inevitable quest to find the right routine for my troublesome skin. I have been on the hunt to find my "right" skincare products and routine for what has felt like my entire life. When I met Trina Fiala, the Founder, and CEO of VERIBELLA, and heard her skincare story, it resonated with me. While her skin concerns differ from mine, her journey was met with the same frustrations. In fact, it seemed like EVERY person I had ever talked to about their skin health shared similar frustrations. From combating itchy, dry skin to fighting menopausal acne to choosing simple daily sun protection. People wanted easy-to-use products that felt great, were safe and worked. Everything they had used failed them in one of those categories.

VERIBELLA was the first product line I had seen that combined clean, concentrated active ingredients into easy-to-use routines that people love. There is nothing more satisfying than a note in my email telling me how VERIBELLA products have positively impacted skin health or that, FINALLY, they have found the skincare routine they had been seeking!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As the Chief Revenue Officer and President of VERIBELLA, my biggest accomplishment is not really mine at all but rather that of the team. Our team consistently reimagines ways to more effectively create meaningful experiences for our Customers, methods to improve our processes, expand our business channels, and adapt to unprecedented market demands like a global pandemic, inflation, and an ever-changing business climate. Everyone at VERIBELLA is passionate about our brand and eager to serve our Customers. It is the difference maker in all companies, and the right team can accomplish anything.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think each business owner would likely comment something different based on their product/service and stage of business operations. I think one of the most challenging elements of owning or leading a business is the balance of the Time to the Outcome equation. By this, I mean knowing when to double down on something and when to change direction entirely.

This requires using intuitive leadership with the ability to leverage data in an effort to see patterns quickly so that you can optimize growth. Often, owners and leaders neglect one or the other in their business dealings, so they end up running in circles. Too much data and not enough intuitive leadership lead to over-analysis, silos, and bureaucratic decision-making. Too much intuitive leadership leads to bias, missed opportunities, and a lack of scalability.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It will not go as you have it planned in your mind.
  2. Have an executive coach so you can execute ideas when they do not go as planned, good or not so good.
  3. It NEVER grows as fast as you want it to; you must learn to love each growth phase.
