What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Velia's Virtual Solutions, and my customers are female business owners who need help setting up processes and procedures and maintaining them.
Tell us about yourself
I first started working on my business nearly six years ago when I was working at a dead-end job and wanted to do better. I had gotten tired of applying to jobs only to be told that I was overqualified or underqualified even despite meeting the pre-requisites. For someone who worked while attending college and had a decade's worth of experience, it drove me crazy that I had to keep going through that. Starting my business was my solution that eventually became the solution for others. The main thing that motivates me is my team. They were all inspired by why I started my business with little knowledge of how to truly run one but respected that despite all odds, I was doing it. They gave me a deeper purpose beyond the clients. I don't do it for me anymore; I do it for them since they made my dream for Velia's come true.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was scaling enough to hire a small team of 5 contractors.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is working with a difficult client who is always dissatisfied with your work no matter what you do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Figure out and write out what value you bring to a client.
- Automate as many tasks as possible.
- Create a streamlined set of processes.
