Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jorge Melatti, Chief Creative Officer of Veggy Street, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a plant-based restaurant, and our menu is designed to offer 100% vegan options - all of which are free of any animal products. As a main business proposition, we offer our customers products inspired by the creativity and experience accumulated throughout our lives. In addition, we have the constant goal of causing the least environmental impact on our planet. Therefore, we do not sell any type of meat, be it red or white. Knowing who to serve and what to serve are our greatest commitments, with the purpose of fulfilling the socio-environmental responsibility, helping in the preservation of the planet, and creating awareness of current and future generations of customers.

Tell us about yourself

The story of Veggy Street begins with a family's desire for a change. I have spent a good time of my career climbing up the corporate ladder in the Casino Industry. After years of travel and time away from his family, I was ready to take a step back and reevaluate what was really important to him. As my son Kyle was searching for healthier options in the Las Vegas Valley, I noticed a gap in the market for restaurants with 100% vegetarian and vegan menus. Armed with the experience of more than 10 years as a gourmet chef, coupled with the expertise of a family linked to gastronomy led, I realized the desire to build a differentiated space in Las Vegas.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I strongly believe that my biggest accomplishments in making healthy food affordable and helping people heal from their diseases have been driven by my passion for healthy and sustainable living. Again, I believe that by promoting a plant-based lifestyle, we can create a healthier, happier, and more sustainable world for everyone.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a business owner can be incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. One of the hardest things about being a business owner is the responsibility that comes with running a company. This includes making difficult decisions that can impact employees, customers, and the business as a whole.

Another challenge is the need to constantly adapt and change to keep up with industry trends and market demands. This can be particularly difficult for small business owners who may not have the resources to invest in large-scale changes. Financial management is also a major challenge for business owners. They must be able to balance their expenses, cash flow, and investments in order to maintain a stable and profitable business.

Lastly, being a business owner can be emotionally draining. The pressure to succeed and the fear of failure can lead to stress and burnout. It is important for business owners to take care of themselves and seek support from family, friends, or the business community.

Despite the challenges, being a business owner can be incredibly fulfilling. The ability to create something from scratch and make a positive impact in the world is a powerful motivator for many entrepreneurs.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Develop a unique concept.
  2. Focus on quality and consistency.
  3. Build a strong online presence.
