Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vanessa "NES" Berry, Founder of Vegan Vizn, located in Dallas, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Vegan Vizn (Vision) is the planning of a future with vegetables, imagination, and meatless motivations. We’ve ascertained to provide education, resources, spread awareness and support for the community. The neogenesis of living a vegan/plant-based lifestyle is a defensible one worth sharing. My customers are Any & Everyone who seeks Transitional Teaching towards healthier choices at the dinner table AND those who collect idiosyncratic items of representation. Which is a fancy way of saying- we also sell handmade crafts with the purpose of promoting self-love through familiar illustrations of MELANIN.

Tell us about yourself

I am the creator and visionary behind Vegan Vizn. I’ve been a Vegan for 6 years and an artisan all my life. I have a B.A. in Psychology and recently completed my Holistic Nutritionist certification. In my own journey to Veganism, I found my life’s purpose to help others who seek more guidance in understanding how to create a healthier lifestyle rather than relying on Westernized influences. Aligning my passions with my lifestyle, I created Vegan Vizn, a service of Wellness & Creativity.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Becoming a resource for my community and gaining new supporters from the recommendation of others. It is heartwarming to hear my journey has caused a ripple effect to encourage others to be inspired and motivated.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Work-Life Balance. Having a business that evolves around my lifestyle sometimes blurred the line between work and fun. In turn, facing this challenge helped me learn and understands it was alright to create boundaries and delegate when necessary. It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a community to grow a business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Research | Investigate your field of interest. Find out the whos, what, when where and figure out how you fit in the equation. Continues learning and training are essential to the growth of self and your brand.
  2. Find a community of support | The best space to be in is with others that are aligned with your likes and passions. Mentorship, creating connections, and collaborations are all important to helping your business grow.
  3. JUST DO IT! | Go for it! The only way to figure out if anything you want to do will ever work is by doing it. So, may the force be with U. :P
