Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in cosmetics, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ali Newpol and Amanda Zweig, the co-owners of Trust Fund Beauty, a vegan beauty brand in the US.

Tell us all about your business...

Trust Fund Beauty is independently female-owned & founded and we’re a clean, vegan & cruelty-free beauty brand on a mission to spark self-worth around the globe. We believe there's nothing more luxurious than a clear conscience and a bold hue. Our purpose is to redefine the meaning of clean, holistic beauty, making it more accessible, loud and proud. We take the quality of our industry leading formulas seriously, but not at the expense of having a good time. TFB is proud to bring you makeup and skincare that offer you the cleanliness you deserve with a really good sense of humour.

Good for you and the planet doesn’t have to mean boring and at TFB ‘boring’ isn’t in our vocabulary. At Trust Fund Beauty we don’t have a particular customer profile and that’s something that we are so proud of! We focus less on demographics and more on value-graphics. Our TFB consumers are looking for luxury hues and performance, without wanting to compromise on price, animals or the planet. Our conscious consumers value wellness and living their boldest life and that transcends age, gender and everything else in between!

What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?

In December 2020, Ali transitioned to Co-Owner & CEO of Trust Fund Beauty following a successful career in the fashion industry focused on brand growth and strategic planning. Ali unexpectedly lost her job when Covid hit, which ended up being a blessing in disguise. Although successful and stimulated in the fashion world, Ali always wished for a role that would give her enough flexibility and work life balance to do what she loved professionally while also being present and available to her 3-year old twin boys. In taking the reins, Ali saw the chance to combine her management, operations, and production skills with her passion for clean beauty, wellness and self-care to develop the next generation of Trust Fund Beauty.

Joining forces with Co-Owner and Creative Director, Amanda Zweig whose workouts and wellness tips Ali has long admired, marks a fearless new beginning for the brand. Ali is thrilled to apply her leadership skills to steer Trust Fund Beauty into a new era that is fun, fierce, and unapologetically bold. Known predominantly for her personal training business and online fitness platform, Amanda then began sharing her favourite clean beauty finds and wellness hacks on Instagram in 2013.

When Amanda’s mom passed away from cancer at a young age, health and wellness became paramount. Amanda became determined to find the best ingredients to put in and on your body. After reviewing countless makeup and skincare samples for her followers, she quickly learned what separated the good and the bad when it came to cosmetics and knew something was missing in the clean beauty space.

Trust Fund Beauty marks the pinnacle of Amanda’s goal to pursue her own brand and inject a fresh new perspective into the world of nontoxic and vegan beauty. Spearheading all creative and strategic communications, and taking an active role in product research and development, Amanda is energized about helping a new generation unleash their boldest, brightest and most badass looks yet.

As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?

Ali: Taking the leap to invest in a business and in myself! I’m not sure anything else can top that!

Amanda: Getting out of my comfort zone each day and taking on bigger and more challenging roles as they come up without hesitation.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?

Ali: Not being able to hide behind someone when the going gets tough. At the same time, it’s one of the most empowering part! Some of my greatest lessons thus far have been when I was forced to tackle something head on that I may not have otherwise had the chance to in another role.

Amanda: Knowing that the successes and failures of the business are your responsibility and are a reflection of the commitment and effort that you put into your work. That’s also really rewarding!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

1. Don’t be afraid of failure!

2. Launch your product, then be open to adapt and adjust

3. Some of your greatest hero products may not be your biggest money makers. Not all of your products need to be - it’s about balance.

4. Listen to your customers and they’ll pay you back tenfold!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

When people are introduced to TFB we immediately get asked what it stands for and what it means.

TRUST & Transparency: A clear conscience in the boldest of hues: Our products are 10-Free Nontoxic, Leaping Bunny & PETA Certified Cruelty-Free and 100% Vegan. We can’t wait to show you what we are made of!

FUND Yourself:We believe investing in yourself should not be a luxury, but rather a priority. Be kind, be bold and bet on yourself, because you are unique AF!

BEAUTY Redefined:From lips to tips, we are on a mission to redefine the meaning of clean & vegan beauty, making it more accessible, inclusive, loud, and proud.
