Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chase Friedman, Founder and CEO of Vanquish Media Group, located in Manhattan Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Vanquish empowers purpose-driven brands that seek a path to sustainable business growth and social impact. We believe in a society supported by purpose-driven brands fueled by passion, purpose, and clarity with a commitment to social impact and creating shared value in their communities and society at large. We provide strategic brand clarity and mindful marketing support to help businesses achieve a balance of purpose and profit with peace of mind.

Tell us about yourself

I'm inspired by the incredibly passionate people and clients we work with (including our own team), each of whom has the desire to better their lives and that of their customers and communities. It's a bit of a proxy high to witness the pride of entrepreneurs and leaders in their businesses when we can deliver a strategy, asset, or campaign that demonstrates impact and profitability.

The inspiration for Vanquish's commitment to purpose and commitment to supporting impact-driven organizations (for-profit, non-profit, of all shapes and sizes) comes from a personal motivation to Do Good and Do Well. If we can demonstrate the balance of profit with purpose, I believe others will follow a path toward more conscious business practices.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having built my business from the ground up, with little prior experience in this industry. I fully embrace the 'David versus Goliath' mindset. We're a small but mighty team, and I couldn't be prouder of the committed and passionate team at Vanquish.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The inability to completely disconnect. The 24/7 'always on' mindset, whether or not you are technically working, the business and clients are always on your mind. Something I'm working on, compartmentalizing and defining boundaries, are essential to mental health and well-being.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in your innate ability to achieve more than you ever have before.
  2. Never lose the passion for what you do; without it, it's just a job.
  3. Surround yourself with people that inspire you and elevate your collective abilities. Don't think you have to have all the answers; surround yourself with people who are smarter and have supplemental skill sets. Check ego at the door.
