Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Amir Abbas Ravaei, Principal of Vancouver TESOL Training Center, located in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Vancouver TESOL Training Center was established in 2014 with the goal of helping aspiring educators reach their full potential. It's a specialised provider of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programs, in addition to several ESL and IELTS, CELPIP, CAEL, and TOEFL iBT teaching certification courses. Students can work towards receiving accreditation as ESL instructors through a variety of in-class and online options, all of which are designed to fit busy schedules.

The school is one of many in a network of partner institutions around the world that work together to provide the best possible education for their students. It serves learners of all backgrounds and origins and provides an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity.

Tell us about yourself

I'm an English language teacher, and my primary motivation is to help students achieve their goals. Applying new ideas and using new technological tools and strategies keeps my job exciting for me. The more complex the challenge, the more I feel that my mind stays alert, and I am able to push myself to help more. It is precisely why I chose this business—because I like the feeling of being able to be useful to my community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

This year, Vancouver TESOL Training Center has won a Consumer Choice Award in recognition of its commitment to excellence in service. This is their second time taking the prize home, and given current intentions, it is unlikely to be their last.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Innovation has always been challenging. What really sets Vancouver TESOL Training Center apart is its approach to instruction. The school uses the latest research-based methods to ensure its students are getting the most out of their learning experience. It also employs a team of qualified and experienced instructors who are passionate about helping their students reach their full potential.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Innovation
  2. Hardworking
  3. Consistency
