Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tyler Wooten, CEO of Valor Coaching Agency, located in Shreveport, LA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a coaching agency that focuses on helping Millennial leaders and their teams find solutions and fulfillment. Our premiere program is the Valor Leadership Academy, which provides on-demand courses, content, and a leadership community. We instruct via Biblical principles throughout each session.

Tell us about yourself

I am a father and husband, born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I currently hold multiple coaching certifications and have served as a minister for 13 years.

When I began my career in leadership, I had no idea how easy it was to feel lonely. I don’t believe it has to be this way, but the pursuit throws natural challenges to you. I assumed that when I began to pursue this path, I would quickly be surrounded by peers and mentors in my corner. In my case, and with many others that I partner with, this wasn’t entirely the case. Some experience this even decades later.

I’ve had the honor of mentoring many leaders along the way, and, on many occasions, I have seen first-hand how lonely leadership can easily be. Years ago, I devoted my life to serving our current and future leaders. I just want to do my part in contributing to a society that our kids and beyond can live in. Having my firstborn completely changed the way I look at the future.

I’m more determined than ever to equip and encourage leaders of courage, hence the name ‘Valor.’ Now, Valor Coaching Agency serves to do just that. Whether it be leaders in their first year, or those who have spent the majority of their lives doing so, we are in their corner.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Each time those that I coach find their own leadership voice, they begin to make an impact that they've only found in the depths of their imagination.

Also, we cannot say enough about the fulfillment that it brings when leaders discover more time with those they love.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, patience. I must continue to remind myself daily of the reason I began the company in the first place. Over time and challenges, it's extremely easy to lose sight of this. Oftentimes it's about remembering that sometimes it's not that I'm doing the wrong things if something doesn't go "as planned." Maybe it's about simply doing the right things long enough.

There will always be more people to serve and more moves to make. The key is making sure I just do my part in it all, encouraging others to do the same. In other words, Valor can't do everything, but we can do our part. Finding patience and gratitude in that has been our aim.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. There's a reason you dream the way you do. Go for it. Work the plan and watch the plan work. Meanwhile, be fluid and flow with the seasons of society, your life, and business.
  2. Find a mentor and a community to lean on.
  3. Don't chase every shiny object out there. Find the products, software, team members, and processes that work for YOU.

Bonus: Please get good branding and copy. Reach out to a professional. It's always worth it!
