Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danielle Ferrari, founder of Valhalla Resale, Inc., located in Tampa, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Valhalla is the first brick and mortar that provides women a hassle-free unlimited wardrobe that they can feel good updating each week. Members can rent clothing and accessories with unlimited exchanges, starting at only $49/month. Eco-friendly laundry, garment repair, and personal styling are some of the perks available to those that want a more sustainable way to keep up with fashion's breakneck speed. We also sell used clothing.

Tell us about yourself

I started Valhalla because I saw an opportunity to eliminate the massive amounts of waste women generate with their never-ending, constantly expanding wardrobes while also solving a pain point women face: ironically, never having anything to wear.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment I've had as a business owner was really just getting started. I was starting a business that no one had ever started before, so I didn't have any kind of framework to start with. I took my time and created a thorough business plan, and as a result, I started off a lot stronger than I would if I had tried to "wing it."

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the things most business owners struggle with is the loneliness that comes with it. To combat this, I do two things. First, and most importantly, I hire employees that share my passion for sustainable fashion. They are almost as passionate about my business as I am. Secondly, I'm in a group for women entrepreneurs, so I surround myself with women who are in a similar situation.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Tips 1-3 are to write a business plan. I cannot tell you how many times I hear "experts" advising not to bother with a business plan if you don't plan on getting outside investment. I plan what I'm going to do with my day every day. I cannot fathom trying to start an entire business from scratch without any kind of plan. A business plan helps you flush out your offer and helps you to better understand the market. I guarantee that if you don't write at least a basic plan, you're starting less strongly than you would if you spent the time to write one.
