Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Valerie LaVigne, Founder of Valerie Lavigne Life and Exhale Pilates located in Burlington, ON, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help women in leadership roles create and prioritize habits, routines, and rituals so they can show up powerfully and impact the meaningful people in their lives, from business owners to teachers, to mothers, and any woman wanting to improve self-esteem and more capacity to show up for the things that matter to her.

Tell us about yourself

My background is in the fitness industry, and I started as a yoga and pilates teacher. I rebelled against a regular routine and structure because I wanted to be a free spirit! It wasn't until I leaped into a solo backpacking adventure around Central America and Mexico that I began understanding the power of rituals and routines in our daily lives. At the end of my travels, I became a Certified Health Coach and started implementing small, supportive habits aligned with my goals. Through my experience and research, I have supported other women with their daily practices. The power of habits has allowed me to start a podcast, buy a pilates studio, and change my life in many other ways. I love that I can make an impact and empower women through their small meaningful actions!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is that through my Healthy Habit Framework, more women are experiencing higher levels of energy, confidence, and consistency with their habits, leading them to their bigger goals and beyond. When I receive an email or text from a client about their transformation, I am reminded of the power of women working together in partnership to make positive lasting change and that, to me, is a huge accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Just one? Kidding... sort of. It's a roller coaster, and without helpful systems, routines, and boundaries, it can be challenging and uncomfortable. The key is to hold on tight and enjoy! Because what's the point of having your own business if you're not having fun?

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start. My only regret in business is that I didn't start sooner.
  2. Connect a feeling word to each of your goals. Because when you reach them, and you will, it's the desired feeling that will get you there and what matters most when you're creating the next goal. It will help you stay intentional in everything you do/create.
  3. Join a like-minded community (other entrepreneurs). When you're a business owner, especially a solo one, it's important to surround yourself with people who 'get you' who understand what you're going through and can be a mirror for you, share ideas or insights, and support you along the way.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If something is nudging you to take a leap, or make a change, do it. Make waves, express your voice and follow your passions! The world needs YOU.
