Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in career and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Valentina Kordi, Mindset & High-Performance Coach of Valentina Kordi - People Development Services, located in Athens, Greece.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run my own coaching & consulting business. I am a Certified Mindset & High-Performance Coach for Executives, Teams & Entrepreneurs. I have 11 years of experience as an Executive & Business Coach, having coached SME and multinational companies' business persons and C-level executives worldwide from companies such as Microsoft, Novartis, Boehringer Ingelheim, Coca-Cola, Biomarin Pharmaceuticals, Nissan, AstraZeneca, Unilever, and others to achieve their corporate and professional goals, build their leadership skills and manage changes in individual and team level effectively, by changing their mindset and behaviors. I also help SMEs successfully achieve a culture transformation to take their business to the next level.

Tell us about yourself

What got me to start working on my own business was my pure desire to help people in organizations achieve more, be what they desire professionally and create nice work environments by taking out of their way all these obstacles that derive from their insecurities, fears and dysfunctional mindset, behaviors, and habits. And because most of the time, the culture is molded by the heads of the organizations or the teams, I also wanted to help leaders overcome all these obstacles and lead their teams in the best possible way. What motivates me the most each day to do what I do is the responsibility I feel I have toward the people who asked for my help and for those who will do so in the future. A mentor of mine once told me, "If you love what you do and you want to do good to people, you need to keep your business running."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is seeing a smile on my customers' faces each time I help them reach their dream goals, having believed in themselves more. And, of course, one of my biggest accomplishments is the fact that although I'm based in Greece, I managed to have an international clientele with very important collaborations with companies and businesspersons from all over the world.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The holistic responsibility for the whole business in comparison to the responsibility limited to one's role when she or he is an employee. On the other hand, I would never exchange the freedom I have to control my day for anything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It takes commitment and consistency. There's no overnight success.
  2. Choose something you really love to give you the resilience you need to keep going.
  3. Don't limit your business opportunities locally. Utilize the power of the internet.
