Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ali Hammoud, Founder of V-Selling, located in Guelph, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

V-selling is an agency that helps businesses get enabled with video. We help you decide how and where your business can benefit from the power of video to communicate and interact with your customers, prospects, and employees. Our customers are business owners, sales leaders, marketing leaders, and sales reps.

Tell us about yourself

Working at one of the largest video technology companies on the market today, we saw some of the most dominant companies in the marketplace doubling down on video as a core method of communication for sales and marketing. After working with hundreds of businesses in North America and EMEA, it became clear that there is still a big gap in what buyers are asking for (video content) and what businesses are providing within their organization. What motivates us daily is hearing the win stories directly from our clients regarding the increase in sales, as well as the happy feedback they receive from their own prospects and customers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment to date was creating and launching our video selling masterclass that's built to show sales teams how to record, send and track videos through the sales cycle. It is currently the most concise, powerful, engaging, and hands-on way for a team to see immediate results in their key performance metrics. We're very proud of how quickly we can increase the number of deals per rep in a short period of time and at a nominal cost.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner, particularly in the world of video, is educating other business owners, marketers, and sales leaders that video is not as complicated or hard as it seems. With any business, it's imperative that you're able to teach someone your perspective and have them understand the latest and greatest of the topic at hand. With video, it has always been something that people leave up to "actors, producers, professionals" and has always been a cost center with little insight into the ROI. Not only has the mentality shifted for those leading the market, but the technology, processes, demand, and digital landscape have as well. This is why we put educating those who are interested before they become a customer embedded in our go-to-market strategy.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a great niche and become an expert in it; soak it up like a sponge.
  2. Build out a shell of a company and find a valuable skill you can market to prove out demand.
  3. Be resilient; very rarely does anyone get it right on the first shot. In everything you do in your business, be prepared to pivot!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Let's bring back the human element to sales & marketing, let's turn boring interactions into engaging ones, and let's have fun doing it - after all, it's what the people are asking for!
